I was asked to direct Territory Studio’s 2016 Motion Response entry for PauseFest, a large Australian design and technology festival based on Melbourne. PauseFest approaches 10 studios every year to create a short piece designed around a theme of their choosing. This years theme was Your Future Human Self.
I spent time researching potential developments of the future in order to try and better understand what that might mean for ourselves and found the place where technology and biology combine to be highly inspiring. The resulting piece named “Transcendence” is an abstract editorial sequence based on the concept of being reborn into a synthetic version of ourselves. It mixes bold typographical elements with both macro and stylised shots of friend and fellow designer, Nik Hill. The visual captures an interplay between biological, organic compounds and technological components interfacing with the human body to illustrate a possible future human self.
I shot, directed, designed, animated and edited the sequence. The soundtrack was provided by the fantastic team at Echoic.

All of the live footage was shot with two lights against black card. Nik Hill very kindly took the role as the future human.
